Bonjour! Nice to meet you!

My name is Samantha Girouard, and I'm an Illustrator, Designer and Typographer.

 

Starting my artistic journey at the very young age, watching Ink Master with my aunt, making clothes for my Barbie dolls, the desire to create art became a big part of who I was. From small sketches to large scale projects, my art is a reflection of myself. Thankfully I was lucky enough to end up going to Savannah College of Art and Design, SCAD, and major in Illustration. I'll be honest I am racked with nerves thinking about the future but I love what I do too much to just stop.
 

My art challenges how we perceive our world, something along the lines of “What if...?”. “What if pinup art wasn’t degrading but instead became empowering?” “What if we embraced the things that go bump in the night?” and so on. I hope my art can show that maybe the “dark” and "sin" isn’t so scary.

 

My art style tends to have a combination of dark, sexy and funny themes along with a retro aesthetic. I mainly use digital media like Procreate, however if I ever have the chance, I will use traditional media like charcoal, graphite and ink. I try and replicate this is my digital art by using digital brushes that have a similar texture. 

 

I really want to show that things might not be what they seem and could possibly even be quite fun and humorous. I combine my retro style with more modern ideas to achieve this. There is always more than one way to look at something, so ask yourself “What if...?”.
